Hazardous Materials, not EPA Waste
must contain the following: Phibro-Tech has reviewed the
requirements set forth in 49 Code of Federal Regulations (49
CFR) concerning shipments of materials which are regulated as
DOT Hazardous Materials but are not classified as an EPA
waste. All such shipments are required to be offered and
accompanied by a properly prepared shipping paper. According
to US DOT requirements in 49 CFR, the shipping paper may be
any document which has the following information on it:
Basic Description in Sequence:
- Proper Shipping Name
- Hazard Class
- Identification Number
- Packing Group
Total Quantity Including Unit of
Measurement (not required for empty containers)
Additional Description Requirements: "RQ" for materials meeting
the hazardous substance definition.
- Technical names of N.O.S. materials
- Shipper’s Certification (see 49 CFR 172.204)
Emergency Response Information: 24 hours emergency response number
In addition to the shipping paper, each shipment of DOT regulated
hazardous materials must have technical information concerning the
materials, as required in 49 CFR 172.602. This information is self
contained within the DOT Emergency Response Guidebook and is
carried by all Phibro-Tech’s drivers.
Each shipment on non-bulk (drums, pails, bags, etc) DOT
regulated materials must be properly marked (label, tag, etc) with
the following information as required in 49 CFR.
- Proper Shipping Name
- Identification Number
- RQ (if applicable)
- Technical Name (if applicable)
- Name & address of the shipper
